I picked up my table-runner today from Sign Makers in Canton, Ohio – I LOVE it! It’s a mix between fabric and canvas, has my logo on it. Can’t wait to use it! Pictures coming soon!
It was snowing so hard leading up to our session on Saturday; roads weren’t perfect however. But the snow made such a pretty backdrop for the pictures; it was beautiful. We went to a nearby park in hopes of using the lake as a background/contrast among the white sky and ground – but the lake was completely covered by the snow. It was a little warmer on this day thankfully (close to 25F/-3.8C), and yes that IS warm compared to what we have had these past few weeks! Crazy Ohio weather.. The snow was reallllly deep in some sections – we took turns walking in the foot tracks that we had to make. Huge drifts of snow too! It was hilarious!!
The sky was bright, the snow fell lightly, we had trees as a backdrop in some of the shots, and the bride and groom looking so happy together. ❤ I’m very excited on how the pictures came out – those to come later!
Thanks again R&N – I had a great time! 🙂
If you want to go pro, you need a portfolio. It’s often a chicken and egg situation. You need clients to build a portfolio and you need a portfolio to get clients. There are some workarounds. Hopefully this will help.
Make Your Own Assignments
First, you’ve got to practice, practice, practice and do it right! When you don’t have a ton of real assignments you’ve got to create your own. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with hiring some models or talking friends and family into spending a day being your subjects. For wedding and portrait images hit a rental shop for both the gown and tuxedos or other costumes. Then spend the day working on capturing images representative of your abilities.
Interested in children’s photography? You’ve got the ability to do exactly the same thing finding friends or neighbors with children. Remember, you’re just starting out and you need images for…

Great spangled fritillary
– Taken with my maco lens
This Sunday I will be meeting up with the future Bride and Groom (wedding: March 21st)!
I have never met the Groom yet and I am very excited to meet him 🙂 The couple will be showing me their church where the ceremony will be taking place, I’ll also snap some cute pictures of the future Mr. and Mrs. together, and we’ll go over details of the wedding day.
It’s going to be really cold 2F (-16C), so we will be doing pictures some outdoors (with the pretty snow) and some indoors (snuggled up) before we all freeze over, hehe.
Congrats again R&N! Thank you for letting me be a part of your special day! ❤
EDIT: session post-poned till 2/21 for bride has a fever 😦 feel better R!
