Make Your Own Assignments
First, you’ve got to practice, practice, practice and do it right! When you don’t have a ton of real assignments you’ve got to create your own. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with hiring some models or talking friends and family into spending a day being your subjects. For wedding and portrait images hit a rental shop for both the gown and tuxedos or other costumes. Then spend the day working on capturing images representative of your abilities.
